About Me
The Patingamon If you don’t know what a Patingamon is, you are not alone. I am THE Patingamon, as I don’t think there are any others.
Years ago we lived in Bromsgrove, England. Like a lot of years ago. When mobiles were not smart and the required experienced thumbs to type text messages. My phone, cheap as it was, had a form of predictive texting, so as you click on the dial pad it guessed what word you were going for. But my battery was shot. And I wanted to send my wife a message so I borrowed my mate’s phone. Which, unbeknownst to me, did not have that nice feature, despite being much nicer. So as I typed something meaningful, expecting it to guess, what came out was something like “patingamon”. My mate saw that and called me The Patingamon from then on.
About me Most people, however, just call me Dave (pronouns he, him, his). Except my mom, who insists I am David. She did name me, so I guess she can have an opinion. Actually the grandchildren only call me Dave when being precocious. The elder grandchild named me Bish (we think he was trying to say Gramps but Bish is all that came out and thus stuck). But my wife won’t let me get a license plate with THE BISH on it so I am pretty sure naming this website “The Bish” was pretty much a no no also.
I have worked as a software architect and people leader on and off for over 25 years. Throughout the years, and from a lot of sources, I have learned a lot of lessons that I will share on this blog. Nothing is original and I will try to source the original as often as possible, but if I miss, please don’t sue me. I will update it and apologize profusely.
Since 2016 I have been working for Bandwidth . We are a software company headquarter in Raleigh, NC that specializes in developing and delivering the power to communicate. Currently I focus on the architecture for our SMS, MMS and over-the-top messaging platforms.
One other thing. This site is also a work in progress. I am using Hugo to generate the static files, starting with the ananke theme. I followed some instructions on Building a Serverless Web Application to set this all up. I hope to continue to improve on this as time allows. I welcome suggestions (once I figure out how to receive comments and suggestions)
